The session, held at Aljada in Sharjah, was attended by His Excellency Tariq Saeed Allay, Director General of the SGMB, Her Excellency Alia Al Suwaidi, Director of SGMB, His Excellency Salem Ali Al Muhairi, Chairman of the Sharjah City Municipal Council, along with government officials, media representatives, and members of the public interested in health matters.

Moderated by Media Professional Maryam Allay from Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (SBA), the session featured Professor Dr. Hany Abdel Gawwad, Consultant Spine Surgeon, and Dr. Adil Sajwani, Family Medicine Consultant Physician.

Dr. Abdel Gawwad called for greater community awareness of spinal deformities, warning against attributing them solely to lifestyle or daily habits. He explained that these conditions can emerge during growth and may be caused by genetic factors or unknown reasons. Early detection, he emphasised, increases the chances of successful treatment and faster recovery.

Dr. Abdel Gawwad pointed to major signs that families should be aware of to identify spinal issues early, including uneven waistlines, mismatched shoulder heights, and abnormal back protrusions. He also affirmed that certain medical skills, such as precise diagnostic and treatment skills remain indispensable, as they cannot be fully replaced by artificial intelligence.

Dr. Sajwani focused on the importance of adopting healthy habits from an early age, including regular exercise and a balanced diet, describing these as long-term investments in health that help prevent age-related illnesses. He added that families play a major role when it comes to nurturing a culture of health and wellness.

Addressing mental health, Dr. Sajwani noted the increased prevalence of anxiety and depression after the COVID-19 pandemic, encouraging individuals to consult qualified medical professionals and seek diagnosis from medical sources.

Dr. Sajwani also discussed modern lifestyle-related health issues, such as neck strain from prolonged device use and nerve compression in the hands.

Attendees took part in interactive activities, a Q&A session, and competitions, with prizes sponsored by Sharjah Cooperative Society. The sessions of the 15th Ramadan Majlis conclude today, Thursday, at Aljada, following Taraweeh prayers.
