Sharjah Press Club, a subsidiary of Sharjah Government Media Bureau, has announced the launch of the ninth edition of Sharjah Ramadan Majlis from April 24th, coinciding with the holy month of Ramadan, on social media under the slogan, ‘Majliskum Endukum’ (Our Majlis with You), through live broadcasts as well as recorded videos by thought leaders, officials and experts in various fields.
The popular Sharjah Ramadan Majlis will once again tackle a wide range of contemporary issues and topics including religion, health, media, sports and humanity, with leading experts and specialists from across the UAE and beyond headlining the various sessions. The Ramadan Majlis will also feature a number of interactive competitions for the public offering attractive prizes totaling more than Dh 100,000.
Spotlight on Coronavirus
The Sharjah Ramadan Majlis this year turns the spotlight on the role of the national media institutions and how they have dealt with the Coronavirus crisis in line with the Emirati values and guiding principles, playing a key role in promoting necessary public awareness and community education about the disease.
The session will highlight the positive role of media institutions in spreading awareness about the issue while ensuring the authenticity of information and their sources and stemming rumours and fake news that could cause disharmony and negativity in society.
An exceptional year: Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi
Sheikh Sultan bin Ahmed Al Qasimi, Chairman of Sharjah Media Council, said: “This year the Sharjah Ramadan Majlis returns with a new look and format through live broadcasts and recorded videos of a host of thought leaders and specialists in various fields. This Ramadan Majlis session is a continuation of the efforts made over the past eight years aimed at enhancing the spirit of constructive dialogue and consolidating social awareness in various fields by making use of the rich experiences of world-class speakers.”
He added: "What we have been experiencing as a result of the global Coronavirus crisis has prompted us to find alternative ways of communicating with the people by harnessing social media platforms to take our message to society. Thanks to the development of digital technologies, these social media platforms, which are immensely popular in the public, make communication so convenient and effortless."
Health session
During the Health session on April 29 (Wednesday), Dr Ali Singel and Dr Hussam Al Tatari will offer vital medical advice and information to the public about following a healthy lifestyle and preventing major diseases.
Media Session
The Media session on May 5 (Tuesday) will feature media figures Lamees Al Hadidi and Khaled Al Zadjali who will offer invaluable insights about the mechanisms of media interaction in times of crisis. The session will be moderated by Ahmed Sultan from the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority (Sharjah Radio & TV).
Religious Session
As part of the Religious session on May 11 (Monday), the Sharjah Ramadan Majlis will address the common mistakes committed by fasting people through live broadcasts of lectures by Sheikh Dr Abdullah Al Kamali and Sheikh Dr Abdullah Al Hammadi.
Humanitarian Session
The Humanitarian Session on May 17 (Sunday), will see HE Dr Hamdan Musallam Al Mazrouei, Chairman of the Emirates Red Crescent, and Fahad Butti Al Muhairi, Director of Support Services Department at the National Authority for Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management, shed light on the humanitarian role being played by the UAE at the national, regional and global levels to provide relief to suffering humanity.
Sports Session
The Sports session on May 20 (Wednesday) will see popular Emirati footballer Ismail Matar and Saudi footballer Mohammed Al Shalhoub discuss the use of modern technologies in the field of sports and their positive impact on the game around the world.
The Sharjah Press Club is an initiative of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau and is dedicated to serving the media and communication professionals by conducting training courses, networking events and orientation programmes throughout the year besides engaging regional and international media education and training organisations and other stakeholders.
