The Higher Committee for Sharjah Consultative Council (SCC) Elections conducted a series of inspections, from September 2 to 4, of the Sharjah City Municipality and municipalities in the Central and the Eastern Regions of the Emirate to gauge the readiness of the civic bodies to start the voter registration process, the first phase of the electoral process, at respective electoral zones from September 15.

HE Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, Member of the Higher Committee for SCC Elections, said: “The inspections began with the Committee team visiting the municipalities of Dibba Al Hisn, Khorfakkan and Kalba on the day one. The Committee visited the municipalities of Al Madam, Al Dhaid and Maliha on the day two. These inspections were aimed at reviewing the work mechanism and to ensure all systems are in place and ready at the respective electoral zones for the crucial first phase, that is, the voter registration process.”

Al Jarwan emphasised that the best of human resources and technical capabilities are being harnessed by the Emirate to complete the registration process smoothly.

“The success of the Emirate’s previous electoral experience has been a huge motivating factor for everyone concerned to do even better this time around, contributing to Sharjah’s nascent journey of parliamentary process in accordance with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to cater to the needs and aspirations of citizens, providing them a decent and fulfilling life,” he added.

A dedicated website https://eccs.shj.ae/shjElection/ has been created for the online registration of voters taking part in the SCC elections in addition to the smart interactive application ‘Sharjah Consultative Council Elections 2019’ which is available on both Apple and Google Play stores.

The SCC elections are divided into four stages. The first phase began on September 1 with the launch of the interactive electronic application and inspections of various civic bodies or electoral zones in the Emirate. The SCC electoral process will conclude on December 11.

The direct elections to the Sharjah Consultative Council were initiated with His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah issuing Emiri Decree No. 59 of 2015 with the aim of enhancing the people’s participation in the decision making process and building and developing of the Emirate for the benefit of the society.
