The first day of voter registration on Sunday (Sept 15) witnessed a large turnout of citizens, demonstrating their keenness to be part of the decision making process in the Emirate and contribute to the success of the electoral process.
The first day of registration at Sharjah Municipality was attended by a number of department heads and officials in Sharjah, asserting the importance of all nationals participating in the parliamentary exercise, which allows citizens to help make a meaningful difference.
The direct elections are being held in the Emirate for the second time, under the guidance and leadership of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah. HH the Ruler of Sharjah has been keen to involve the citizenry in the Emirate’s governance and journey of progress in order to enhance their way of life.
In this context, the Higher Committee for Sharjah Consultative Council Elections has been sparing no effort to facilitate the critical phase of registration of citizens as voters as smoothly as possible at election centres across the Emirate.
The first stage of voter registration for the SCC polls began on September 1 with the launch of an interactive online application, remarkably simplifying the registration process, said Al Jarwan. This phase of manual voter registration complements the first phase and offers the citizens a choice to register themselves in the traditional way, he added.
HE Ahmed Saeed Al Jarwan, Member of Higher Committee for SCC Elections and Chairman of the Election Management Committee, praised the huge turnout of citizens at election centres throughout the Emirate, underscoring their enthusiasm to exercise their precious vote and have their say in the electoral process to choose their representatives for the august body of Sharjah Consultative Council.
It is worth mentioning that the historic direct elections to Sharjah’s highest advisory body stem from the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah, to involve and empower the citizenry in all areas of decision making and governance.
The direct elections to the Sharjah Consultative Council had been initiated with His Highness the Ruler of Sharjah issuing Emiri Decree No. 59 of 2015 with the aim of enhancing the people’s participation in the decision making process and building and developing of the Emirate for the benefit of the society.
