Effective Communication Skills: SGMB Training Workshop Targets Sharjah Government Employees

HUDA AL DAH: INITIATIVE TO BOOST ROLE OF GOVERNMENT COMMUNICATION DEPARTMENTS, DEVELOP EMPLOYEES’ SKILLS

The Government Communication Department of the Sharjah Government Media Bureau successfully wrapped up a media training programme titled "Skills of Effective Communication with Others", which was held at Bait Al Hikmah (House of Wisdom) from May 30 to 31 and targeted members of the Government Communication Network (GCN) and those working in various government departments and institutions in the Emirate.

The training workshop is part of the Government Communication Network’s initiatives and efforts aimed at enhancing the capabilities of workers in various government institutions in Sharjah and implementing the best international practices in developing the government communication system in the emirate.

Senior trainer Ezzeddin Ahmed conducted the training workshop featuring a number of interactive activities and successful models of communication and self-improvement that catered to interests of all participating employees irrespective of their nature of work, position or institutions.

The workshop employed various visual and physical tools such as paintings and models as well as games and exercises that deepened the participants' understanding of ideas and concepts in a fun and friendly atmosphere and using case role-playing and case studies.

The GCN training programme aims to help the participants identify the basics and components of the communication process and acquire basic skills for effective communication. It discussed various methods of communication dealing with the communication process in a creative, innovative way, in addition to identifying the most common mistakes employees make when communicating with the internal and external audience. It addressed main axes, most notably the basics communication with others, verbal communication, body language, creative axes in the development of communication skills, and the relationship of the subject of communication with the ethics and behaviour of the work team.

Huda Al Dah, Manager of the Government Communication Department at the SGMB, stressed that by organising such training workshops and programmes, the Government Communication Network seeks to enhance the role of government communication departments in institutions and entities in the Emirate.

The GCN aims to develop the communication capabilities of government communication professionals in the Emirate, in addition to the need to focus on thinking outside the box and acquiring creative and innovative communication skills, in order to ensure government agencies provide the best services in accordance with the best global standards, she added.
