This came during the Media Committee’s first meeting held on Thursday morning at the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority. The meeting agenda included different points related to preparations for the media coverage of the upcoming elections.

The meeting was chaired by HE Mohammed Hassan Khalaf, Head of the Media Committee and Member of the Higher Committee for the Sharjah Consultative Council Elections. The meeting was attended by other members of the Media Committee, including Tariq Saeed Allay, Director of Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB), and Hessa Al Hammadi, Manager of Government Communication Department at the Bureau; Fatima Yousef Sandal and Faisal Ali Al Hammadi from the Sharjah Broadcasting Authority; Islam Al Shiwi from the General Secretariat of the Sharjah Consultative Council; and Faisal Abdul Hadi from Sharjah Media City.

At the beginning of the meeting, HE Mohammed Hassan Khalaf welcomed members of the Media Committee, lauding their media expertise and role in delivering the media message of the electoral process.

He stressed that the Media Committee, with the efforts of its members, media institutions and the community, would work to highlight the various stages of the Sharjah Consultative Council elections. It would also highlight the role of the SCC, at both the legislative and regulatory levels, in accordance with the vision of His Highness Sheikh Dr Sultan bin Mohamed Al Qasimi, Supreme Council Member and Ruler of Sharjah.

Khalaf discussed the vision of the Media Committee and its role in highlighting the significance of the elections for the citizens of Sharjah, in addition to its contribution to increasing awareness of the importance of the electoral processes that will soon be witnessed in Sharjah and the need to take part in it to implement the slogan of the 2015 elections: “Take Part in Decision-Making”.

The meeting then discussed initial perceptions of the Committee's plans and roles at the level of the various cities and regions of the Emirate of Sharjah. It defined media plans that are compatible with the stages of the electoral process and saw the distribution of responsibilities among members of the Media Committee. Finally, priorities of the next stage of the Media Committee's work were determined according to its competencies and efforts in coordination with various media institutions.
