Major General Saif Al Zari Al Shamsi, Commander in Chief of Sharjah Police and Head of the Emergency, Crisis and Disaster Management Team in Sharjah, said: “In view of the ongoing global efforts against the novel Coronavirus disease, all members of society must adhere to all precautionary guidelines and preventive measures being introduced by the authorities that are in their own interest. We urge the community members to join hands and cooperate with the efforts of the country to confront the disease. We call upon everyone to stay at home and avoid public gatherings that are the main cause of transmission of the virus.”
HE Thabet Al Tarifi, Director General of Sharjah Municipality, underscored the civic body’s commitment to work with various government organisations and entities in the Emirate to defeat the Coronavirus, including a slew of measures aimed at preventing public gatherings and encouraging people to stay home, in accordance with the directions of the UAE government and its wise leadership.
Al Tarifi stressed the need to adhere to the guidelines and instructions issued by the authorities as this represents loyalty and a sense of belonging to the nation, which are the two main factors that can limit the spread of the virus. Accordingly, Sharjah Municipality is working to close all places of public gatherings such as public parks and beaches, he added.
HE Marwan bin Jassim Al Serkal, Executive Chairman of the Sharjah Investment and Development Authority (Shurooq) emphasised that preventing public gatherings is one of the most important and effective measures in dealing with the Coronavirus and limiting its spread. The Sharjah Municipality’s decision to close Khalid Lake is part of the preventive measures being employed by the Sharjah government to check the spread of the disease, he added.
Al Serkal said: "In light of these government directives urging community members to stay in their homes, Shurooq has decided to stop public gatherings in the green spaces of the popular Al Majaz Waterfront as well, in order to ensure the safety and health of citizens and residents."
