As one walks around the International Photography Festival (Xposure) 2017 venue in Sharjah, a massive water tank pops out of the blue and, no, it’s not being used to store fish, it’s the internationally acclaimed fashion photographer, Zena Holloway’s studio! The artist is taking underwater fashion photography to the next level by making it available right here at the festival to all its visitors.

Holloway will be presenting live demonstrations of underwater photography that incorporates models and fashion; she will be freezing moments, and suspend both subject and time in her demonstrations, and the crowds are welcome to dive straight into this novel experience.

Hundreds of shutter bugs gathered to polish their photography skills at the inaugural demonstrations today, which will continue through the length of the four-day festival until Saturday, 25 November, organised by the Sharjah Government Media Bureau (SGMB).

The Egyptian photographer and artist will showcase live demonstrations themed “Underwater Fashion Photography”, which will reveal her unique talent in capturing the most creative and colorful snaps of fashion models under water; “Suspended in Space and Time” a visual art demo of her taking multiple shots being suspended in different positions inside the water tank; and “Frozen” which will demonstrate still fashion photography of fashion models in frozen positions under water.

 

 

Zena is a certified instructor at a local diving centre in Egypt, and has documented coral reefs and marine life extensively. She was seen charting her own course in an ultra-niche profession, which included underwater fashion photography and other forms of visual art.

The self-taught artist has received critical acclaim worldwide. She has won numerous international photography competitions including the AOP, APPLIED ARTS, COMM ARTS, RPS, PDN, CANNES and IPA. She has also worked with renowned advertising agencies such as Leo Burnett in Mexico, Saatchi & Saatchi in New York, TBWA, Memac Ogilvy and O&M in Hong Kong, creating some of the most memorable ad campaigns for international brands such as B&H, Camay, Shangri-La, Sony, Olay and more.

Xposure 2017 brings together a galaxy of renowned photographers and international and local experts to share their experiences with photography enthusiasts. The four-day event will include 35 experiential and educational workshops, 25 seminars and a grand total of 27 indoor and outdoor exhibitions.
